René Gruss is a composer, creator and musical maverick exploring where music goes next.

His music has always crossed boundaries - between classical and contemporary, acoustic and electronic, intimate and orchestral. Over the years, it has found an unexpected international audience, from Harvard academics and European creatives to Chicago hip-hop artists and celebrity musicians.

​

One particularly notable listener was Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant, who chose René’s album Bellatrix as one of his top ten classical recordings for Classic FM’s The Secret Fan, describing it as “stunning.”

For more than a decade, René has been searching for something he believes is missing: a contemporary musical language that can connect people across traditional musical divides.

​

That search has led to Synphonic.

​

Synphonic brings together orchestral depth and electronic sound, creating a new musical style alongside a new way of experiencing and discovering music. At its heart is the Virtual-CD - an immersive digital music experience designed to give music a stronger sense of identity, value and permanence.

But Synphonic is about more than sound or technology.

​

It continues René’s belief that music should move people, challenge expectations and open new possibilities - while finding new ways for people to connect with music in a digital world.

He is building Synphonic independently - one composition, one experiment and one idea at a time - while exploring a bigger question:
